Toothsome Southerner James Earl Carter almost stumped
the panel on the television show What’s My Line? two years
before he became president. Not a pokey reader, he was clocked reading
2,000 words per minute with 95 percent comprehension.
He was a deeply religious man who took turns with
his wife Rosalynn reading the Bible in bed.
After leaving office, Carter worked tirelessly to
improve human rights and living conditions and to expand democracy throughout
the world.
