1994–ongoing
The object series was started in 1994. As a means of self
discipline, I began to do a drawing a day; being lazy, I drew what was
within arms reach — a paperclip, some marbles, etc. Eventually,
I developed a language using objects. The series consists of very large
oil paintings and small drawings (usually pastels). They have grown into
multiples that tell stories. My largest multiple consists of 72 pieces.
There is no political correctness in these works — I make light
of mental illness, murder, and piety — but there is always an underlying,
sometimes quite serious, story. I hope these works allow us to recognize
our own fragility and laugh at ourselves.
